Dingleburn Wilderness Walk

This epic off-road safari and 7 km (approx 2 hour) walk explores the remote landscapes of Lake Hawea’s Dingleburn Station.

This has to be one of the most thrilling and spectacular backroad journeys in New Zealand. Your expert guide skillfully negotiates this incredible road blasted by hand into the sheer cliff face high above Lake Hawea. Arriving at remote Silver Island Bay set off for a leisurely 7 km semi-guided walk traversing the lower slopes Dingleburn High Country Station. You’ll have time to walk unguided too, to soak in the silence arriving at the Dingleburn River where your guide awaits with a relaxing riverside picnic lunch.

Suitable for:
Those looking for an off-road experience matched with a decent  wilderness walk  well away from the crowds. You’ll appreciate having a guide along for some of the trial (approx 45 minutes) to bring the stories of the area but you’ll also enjoy the remainder of the trail time on your own to truely connect with nature.
